Everything you need to know about how DirectGigs works.

DirectGigs is a peer-to-peer gig marketplace where people post jobs and local workers claim them — directly. There's no staffing agency, no platform middleman in the payment, and no algorithm controlling your income. You post what you need, workers bid, and you both agree on price and terms directly.
DirectGigs is currently geo-locked to Virginia at launch. You must be located in Virginia to post or claim gigs. We plan to expand to additional states in the future.
Anyone 18 years or older located in Virginia. All users must complete ID verification before posting jobs or making offers. This ensures a safe, verified community of adults.
DirectGigs is launching in 2026 on iOS and Android. Sign up for early access notifications on our home page and you'll be among the first to know when it's live.
Any legal gig or task you need done locally — yard work, moving help, cleaning, handyman tasks, deliveries, rides, tech help, and more. Jobs are described using free-form tags, so the categories are as flexible as the work people actually need. Ride-related gigs require a background check from the worker. For any other gig type, job posters can choose to require a background check before hiring — so verified workers have an edge across the board.
Once you're signed up and ID-verified:
  • Tap "Post a Gig" in the app
  • Add a title, description, tags, and suggested price
  • Upload up to 4 photos (optional)
  • Choose ASAP or a scheduled date/time
  • Set an expiration (1 hour to 30 days)
  • Choose whether the post is open to all workers or verified-only
  • Confirm and post
Your exact address stays hidden until you mutually accept a worker's offer.
Workers submit offers on your posted gig. You can see all bids and the current lowest offer. You may accept any offer, counter-offer (up to 3 rounds, each with a 30-minute timer per side), or let workers compete. Once you accept an offer, all other open offers are cancelled and those workers are notified the job is filled.
Yes — you can edit your post any time before the first offer is accepted. Once you've accepted an offer, the job details are locked.
Yes. You can direct a job post at a specific worker you've worked with before, or keep it open to all nearby workers. You can also use the worker directory (subscribers only) to browse verified workers and send a direct request.
You'll receive a notification when your post is about to expire. If it expires without an accepted offer, you can repost it with one tap. You are not charged if no offer is accepted.
After signing up and verifying your ID, set up your worker profile with your skills, service radius (up to 50 miles), and availability. The app will notify you of new gigs that match your skills and radius. Browse the feed, filter by tags, price, or distance, and submit an offer on any job you want.
100%. You set your own rates on your profile and submit whatever offer amount you choose on any job. There is no algorithmic pay control or platform-mandated pricing. You can negotiate freely up to 3 counter-offer rounds.
The Verified Worker badge is earned by completing a background check through Checkr. It's optional for general gig workers — but required for ride-related gigs, and job posters can choose to require it before hiring for any gig type. That means a poster can set their job to "verified workers only," and unverified workers simply won't be able to bid. Getting verified gives you a real competitive edge and opens more doors. The cost of the background check is paid by you.
Cancellations affect your profile. A worker-initiated cancellation after acceptance results in an automatic 1-star mark on your profile. Mutual cancellations (both parties agree) result in no penalty for either side. Repeated cancellations will affect your cancel/accept ratio which is visible to hirers.
If a worker doesn't show up within 30 minutes of the agreed time, the hirer can trigger a no-show. GPS data is used to protect honest workers. A confirmed no-show results in a $2 fee charged to the worker, a flag on their profile, and a temporary lockout. Ride-specific no-show rules also apply.
DirectGigs never touches the money between users. Payment for the actual job is made directly between the hirer and worker — cash, Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, or any method you both agree on. We are purely a connection platform. The only fees we charge are our small platform fees (see below).
DirectGigs charges one small fee to connect hirers and workers:
  • Pay-as-you-go: $2 per job post, charged to the hirer only when a match is mutually accepted. No charge if no offer is accepted.
  • Monthly subscription: $10/month for unlimited free job posts and access to the worker directory. Processed through Apple App Store or Google Play.
Background checks and ID verification are separate services paid directly by the worker to the provider — not DirectGigs fees. Background checks are optional, but job posters can require one before hiring. Workers who are verified can bid on a wider range of gigs, including those where the poster has set a "verified workers only" requirement.
No. The $2 fee is charged on mutual acceptance and is non-refundable. It covers the cost of the connection service. If the job is cancelled after acceptance, the fee is not returned.
Yes. Subscriptions are managed through Apple or Google and can be cancelled at any time from your device's subscription settings. You retain subscriber benefits until the end of the current billing period.
No. Since payment is made directly between individuals, DirectGigs has no visibility into or control over those transactions. Payment disputes are between the hirer and worker as consenting adults. We recommend agreeing on payment method before accepting a job. DirectGigs only handles platform-level disputes (fraud, bans, account issues).
ID verification is handled by a third-party provider (Stripe Identity or Persona). You'll be asked to submit a photo of a government-issued ID and a selfie/liveness check. The provider verifies your identity and age (18+) and returns a pass/fail result to DirectGigs. We do not store your ID images — only the outcome. This is a one-time, user-paid process required to post jobs or make offers.
Never. All communication happens through DirectGigs' in-app messaging system. Your real phone number is never shared with hirers, workers, or anyone else on the platform.
No. Your full address on a job post is hidden until both parties have mutually accepted each other. Before that, only the general city/area is visible to workers browsing the feed.
DirectGigs includes several safety features:
  • SOS button — alerts 911 and sends your GPS location to emergency contacts
  • Silent panic mode — activated by 5 rapid taps
  • Trip sharing — share a live ride link with anyone
  • Route deviation alerts — for ride gigs, alerts if the driver deviates from the route
  • No real phone numbers — ever exposed in the app
  • Report & block — 3 reports in 30 days triggers admin review
  • Screenshot prevention — on sensitive screens
If your account is banned — for failed ID verification, background check, or policy violations — you will be notified. Banned identities are checked against a ban list on all new signups to prevent re-registration. If you believe your ban was in error, contact us at phillip@directgigs.app.
Sign up with email and password, Apple Sign-In, or Google Sign-In. After signup, verify your email, then complete ID verification to unlock full platform features. Your account goes live immediately after signup — ID verification is needed to post or bid.
On the login screen, tap "Forgot Password" and enter your email. You'll receive a reset link. If you signed up with Apple or Google, password reset is managed through those providers.
Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account in the app. You can also request deletion by emailing phillip@directgigs.app. Your data will be deleted within 30 days, except where legally required to retain (e.g., ban records). See our Privacy Policy for full retention details.
After a job is completed, both the hirer and worker are prompted to leave a 5-star rating and a written review (minimum 20 characters). Reviews are hidden until both parties submit — so neither side can bias the other. If only one party reviews, the review auto-posts after 7 days. Public responses to reviews are allowed.
Each user gets a unique referral code. When someone signs up using your code and completes their first job, you earn referral credits that can be applied toward platform fees. Details on referral credit amounts will be available at launch.
